On the same day. From the next day, your stay in Canada will be illegal.

MY PROFESSION IS NOT ON THE LIST OF PROFESSIONS IN DEMAND IN CANADA, CAN I SUBMIT MY EXPRESS ENTRY PROFILE?

Yes. There is no longer a list of professions in demand for the registration of an Express Entry expression of interest. You only need to qualify for one of the federal programs operated by the system: Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Trades.

WHAT KIND OF VISA DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR IN ORDER TO STUDY FOR 3 MONTHS?

Visitor visa with permission to study. This visa allows you to study for up to 24 weeks, and requires the submission of a letter of acceptance from the educational instiution.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE WORK VISA TO ARRIVE?

It depends on the time of year and the volume of cases the Canadian government has at the time. The government updates the time frames on a weekly basis on their website.

HOW DO I GO ABOUT STUDYING AND WORKING IN CANADA?

Being enrolled in a designated learning institution, in a vocational course – language courses are not eligible – a student is allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions, and 40 hours per week during scheduled breaks. HOW CAN I LIVE PERMANENTLY IN CANADA?

To obtain permanent residency you must first qualify for an immigration program.

DO I NEED A JOB OFFER IN ORDER TO IMMIGRATE TO CANADA THROUGH A PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM?

It depends on the program. If through a LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment), then yes.
However, if going through a qualification program, the candidate will have to meet government requirements, in which case a job offer is unnecessary, although it will add Express Entry points.

WILL I RECEIVE CITIZENSHIP IF I MARRY A CANADIAN CITIZEN?

No. However, the spouse who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident may request permanent residency for the foreign spouse through the Family Sponsorship program.

IF I AM GOING TO STUDY IN CANADA, DOES MY CHILD HAVE ACCESS TO PUBLIC SCHOOL?

If at least one parent is enrolled full-time in an institute of higher education, whether public or private, the child of school age will have access to public school. The criterion for school age varies by province.

CAN I CHANGE EMPLOYERS WITH THE SAME WORK PERMIT?

If your permit was acquired through the LMIA it is not possible to change employers, since the permit is linked to the employer. However, if you came to Canada through a program that grants an open work permit, you can change employers.

CAN I CHANGE MY STATUS FROM VISITOR TO STUDENT WHILE INSIDE CANADA?

Yes. While in Canada on a valid visitor visa, you may apply for a study visa. You do not have to leave the country, but your documents will have to be sent to the nearest Canadian consulate outside Canada, or in the country of origin.

CAN I WORK WHILE ATTENDING ENGLISH OR FRENCH COURSES?

No. Language courses do not confer the right to a work permit.

CAN I USE A GUARANTOR FOR PROOF OF FUNDS WITH MY STUDY VISA?

If you cannot prove self-sufficiency or necessary proof of funds, you may indeed indicate someone who will be completely or partially responsible for your expenses and financial issues This person will have to provide all requested financial documents, as well as a copy of their identification and a letter in their own handwriting attesting that they will be your guarantor.

WILL I NEED TO HAVE AN EDUCATIONAL CREDENTIAL ASSESSMENT OF MY DEGREE, EVEN IF MY PROFESSION IS NOT REGULATED IN CANADA?

Degree equivalence, as determined by an accredited Canadian entity, establishes that studies completed outside of Canada compare with the country’s academic standards. This has no relation to regulated professions, but is a procedure required in order to meet the criteria of certain immigration programs for the assessment of educational level.

IF MY PROFESSION IS REGULATED, HOW CAN I VALIDATE MY DEGREE?

The validation of credentials for regulated professions varies according to the province. However, it is important to get in contact with the regulatory bodies of your profession in the province where you wish to work in order to find out their specific requirements.
